Inkvale ("the app") is developed by Clearhead Labs ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: your notes are yours, they are protected by per-user security rules, and you can delete everything at any time.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from your Google account, used to create your Inkvale account and to label your synced data.
- Your content. Notes, notebooks and attachments (photos, voice recordings, videos, PDFs) you create. Without sign-in this content stays on your device; when you sign in, it is backed up and synced through Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage).
- Purchase information. If you subscribe to Inkvale Premium, Google Play processes the payment. We receive and store the purchase token and subscription state to verify your entitlement server-side. We never see your payment details.
- Usage and diagnostics. Anonymous app-interaction events (Google Analytics for Firebase) and crash logs/diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics) that help us fix bugs and improve the app.
- Advertising ID. The free tier shows ads served by Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising ID to serve and measure ads. This identifier is collected by and shared with Google for advertising purposes. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings; subscribing to Premium removes ads entirely.
AI features
When you use an AI feature (summarize, rewrite, voice-note clean-up, Smart Search), the note text needed for that request is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the result. The content is used only to produce your result and enforce fair-use quotas; we do not sell it or use it for advertising, and it is not used to train AI models. AI requests are only made when you explicitly invoke an AI action.
How your data is protected
- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS).
- Cloud data is protected by Firebase security rules: only your authenticated account can read your notes; entitlement records can only be written by our server.
- Optional app lock (biometric, PIN or pattern) protects the app on your device.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not read your notes; AI processing happens only on your explicit request.
- We do not share your content with advertisers.
Data deletion and retention
Delete your account any time: in the app, open Settings → Delete Account and confirm. Your account and all synced notes, notebooks, attachments and profile photos are then permanently deleted from our servers automatically. Full details are on the account deletion page.
After account deletion we retain: records of purchases, trial eligibility and AI-usage quotas (kept to verify entitlements, prevent free-trial abuse and satisfy legal/accounting requirements), and aggregated analytics/crash statistics that do not identify you. Google Play retains your purchase history under Google's own policies.
Third-party services
Inkvale is built on the following processors, each governed by its own privacy policy: Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, analytics, crash reporting), Google AdMob (advertising, free tier only), Google Play Billing (subscriptions), and Anthropic (AI processing).
Children
Inkvale is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update this page and the effective date above.
