Inkvale is a note-taking app. You write, organise and search your notes; they sync to every device you sign in on; and when you want help with the writing itself, AI tools are there — but only when you ask for them.
It is published by Clearhead Labs, the trading name of Ayaan Bhowmick, an independent software developer based in India. Inkvale is not a venture-backed company or a team — it is one person's product, which is why it is built to be simple to run and honest about what it does.
What Inkvale does
- Notes and notebooks. Rich text, nested notebooks, tags, pinning, reminders, trash with restore, and version history on every note.
- Attachments. Photos, voice recordings, video and PDFs, with text extracted from images so you can search it.
- Sync and offline. Everything works offline and syncs when you reconnect. Notes written on a phone appear on the web, and the reverse.
- AI writing tools. Summarise, rewrite in a chosen tone, translate, turn a recording into meeting notes, tidy up dictated text, and Smart Search across everything you've written. Part of Premium.
- Yours to look at. Fifteen themes, custom colour schemes you can export and share as a file, adjustable typography, and paper backgrounds.
Where it runs
Android, the web, desktop (Windows, macOS and Linux, as an installable web app) and iPhone or iPad via the browser. One account covers all of them, and Premium bought on any one of them unlocks the rest.
How it makes money
Two ways, both plain: ads on the free tier, and Inkvale Premium at ₹69 a month or ₹499 a year, which removes the ads and unlocks the AI features. Your notes are never part of the business model — we don't sell data, we don't show your content to advertisers, and AI processing happens only when you invoke it. The privacy policy spells this out.
How it's built
The Android app is native Kotlin. The web, desktop and iOS clients share one TypeScript codebase talking to the same backend, which is Google Firebase — authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage — with a small server that holds the AI keys so they are never on your device. AI results come from Anthropic's Claude models.
